Painting of the Fourteen Holy Helpers

The famous painting of the Fourteen Holy Helpers hangs on the sidewall together with a painting of Merano's old town. The faithful have always worshipped the Holy Helpers in the Work of Charity. These 14 saints were especially called upon as advocates to spare Merano from the flood. There was a lake in Corvara near Moso in Passiria that flooded the whole valley once in a while. This lake was also included in the painting by the artist.

The natural dam broke in 1645 and the valley bottom of Val Passiria and a lower-lying district of Merano were flooded. The original entrance to the church before the flood can be seen to the left of today's entrance.
